The  opening film of the 6th edition of Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) took place at Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, Palms, Lekki, Lagos. The opening movie was Mediterranea directed by Jonas Carpignano.

The movie ‘Mediterranea’ starring Koudous Seihon and Alassane Sy och Aisha. The movie  is the story of two young men leaving their home country Burkina Faso to make the dangerous trip over the Mediterranean to Italy.

Nollywood, or Nigerian cinema, is the second largest film industry in the world. Some of its stars came together for the Africa International Film Festival in Lagos.

This year’s event drew a more global audience through a major issue affecting Europe: How to deal with the influx of migrants and refugees

Despite little or no backing from African governments, film producers in Africa especially those in Nigeria are always adamant to highlight issues close to the heart of society.
